Welcome
To My Kitchen

_

Food is an important part of Indian culture and daily routines almost seem to revolve around exotic and frequent meals and snacks. The combination of spices in an almost infinite number of ways is a key contributor to the vast array of flavours and aromas that you will find in Indian cuisine. Learning the correct combination of spices to achieve specific flavours and textures is an integral part of the art of Indian cookery.

Indian cuisine varies from region to region, reflecting the different cultures of the ethnically diverse country.

About Me

_

I grew up in India and have been living in the UK for about 30 years now. I learnt most of my cooking from my mother and my mother-in-law. I am passionate about cooking and love to experiment with flavours and techniques to create new dishes. I would like to use my website and my courses to teach the basic techniques that underpin the art of Indian cooking. The aim of my courses is to teach my students to cook some authentic regional dishes with confidence.

My Inspiration
For Cooking

_

I come from Karnataka, which is a state in South India, but also spent a portion of my childhood in Mumbai, which is a large vibrant metropolis and melting pot of different regional cultures. Immigrants to this city have brought with them priceless culinary treasures and knowhow. My mum was very passionate about cooking and very creative with cooking. I grew up in a household enjoying not just my mum’s cooking but also from my aunties and cousins and family friends.

I have inherited my mother's passion and would like to pass on her skills and cooking traditions to my clients. We will cook some authentic, regional food from various parts of India.

My Journey
As a Teacher

_

I was coaxed into teaching cookery to my work colleagues a few years ago and enjoyed it so much that I have since run a few sessions at a local community school in the village of Chandlers Ford and over 10 sessions at a community café in Swaythling. After Covid, I switched to online lessons and have received encouraging feedback on this format. Hopefully, by the autumn of this year, I will be able to start face to face lessons again and I am planning to offer my classes online as well as in person.
